Majoring in multiple subjects in college sounds impressive. When college students meet other college students who are double majoring there is a sense of awe surrounding those students who could pull it together enough to major in multiple subjects. While double majoring might be a great idea for some individuals, it will not work for everyone.
There are several programs where a double major would not only make sense but are easy to obtain. For example, if you are planning on writing newspaper articles for a career it would be beneficial to not only major in journalism but to major in mass communications as well. There is no doubt that when it comes time to interview for jobs, employers will look at candidate with multiple majors more closely. Double majoring shows that the student was both driven and committed to learning, they can manage multiple classes and a great deal of stress.
However, multiple majoring is not for everyone. In some cases, students cannot decide between two passions and try to do both. If the two majors that you chose not related and will not benefit each other, then employers might be confused as to why you took both majors. There is also a great amount of time and dedication that a student will need to invest to double major. If you are already struggling with one major, do not add another. Decide which class you will enjoy more and focus on that one. It is also important that you are not stretching yourself too thin and are not fully understanding the majors that you are in.
